The 1st team have had a disappointing start to the season losing their first 5 matches. Since those 5 defeats the team have rallied to record two league victories over Balrothery FC and Rivermeade. In addition the team also advanced with a win in the cup. With only 2 goals conceded in the last 4 games the team is showing some consistency giving manager Dan Daly confidence that this team can now move in the top half of the table.
According to Dan,
"the effort from the players at training has been brilliant, team spirit is high and competition for places is keeping everyone focused . Every team has a bad run during a season and hopefully we got ours out of the way at the start of the season."

The Diggers 2nd team, managed by Mark O'Riordan, have had a great start to the season winning 4, drawing 2 and losing 2. Great credit goes to Mark for the team's performance as this is the first year that most of the lads have played adult football. Karl Baitson and Peter Aherne have been magnificent at centre half and are the 2 standout players on the team. Glen Kavanagh is just 17 and has played in just 4 games but has done excellently and is one to keep an eye on. Brian Blood has proved an invaluable addition to the team adding strength and ariel prowess and the balance of the squad is good. (Please note, this is definetly NOT Brian Blood's first year in adult football)
"the lads are really enjoying playing for the Diggers. I have a large squad of players so not everyone can get a regular game but there has been no complaints so far and attendance at training has been brilliant. We are in second place in the league at the moment but we know the teams chasing us have some games in hand. They'll take points off each other so we'll just concentrate on playing good football and win as many matches as we can.
I put a large part of our improvement down to the Saturday team. My lads can see the hard work the Saturday team put into training and especially how hard they worked to turn things around.
I stopped training one night while the 1st team had been going through their bad run. I told my lads to stop what they were doing and look over at the 1st team and at the sheer effort every player was putting into their training. I assured them that this would pay off and now that it has, my lads want to get the best from themselves now and get stronger and fitter as a team".
Well said Mark and keep up the good work!!!!!!
