Shelbourne SSC v Glasnevin FC
Venue: St Annes Park, Clontarf
Date: 03-10-2009
Glasnevin's poor run of form continued when they made the trip to St. Annes park to face Shelbourne SSC on Saturday. Having lost to table toppers Celtic Park previously, the diggers where looking to get back into the chase again. Things however started dismally when they conceded after just two minutes and disappointingly for manager Dan Daly, the heads seemed to drop straight away.
Shelbourne made it two nil on approximately 30 minutes to reaffirm they're dominance in the game against a rattled Glasnevin side. The sides went into the half time break with the host leading by 2 goals to nil.
Things couldn't have gotten much worse you would think but 10 minutes into the second half, they just did with diggers player Daryl Slein sent off for retaliation. Any chance of a fight where being made harder and harder by the away side. On seventy minutes the game was effectively over when Shels got they're third goal of the game. Any hope of salvaging some pride from the game where diminished when shortly after that goal, Brian blood for was given a straight red card and then Willie Byrne collected his second yellow card of the game and his own red card for two careless tackles to compound things for a livid Dan Daly on the touchline.
Two straight 3-0 defeats then for the diggers will give them plenty to think about during the international break with manager Dan Daly promising plenty of hard work on the training filed between now and the next game. The diggers remain fourth from bottom after 6 games, worryingly with all the teams below them having games in hand.
