Two second half goals in quick succession from Johnny Pringle ensured the Diggers secured all 3 points in a hard fought away victory over a strong Ratoath Harps. The hosts started brightly putting the visitors under severe pressure in the opening 15 minutes. Harps eventually made the breakthrough catching the Diggers asleep with a well taken goal on 17 minutes. This was the wake up call the Glasnevin side needed and they equalized within 5 minutes with a close range shot from Cathal Doran. Shortly before the break Glasnevin took the lead when Eoin Hughes pounced on a loose ball following a mix up between the Ratoath keeper and his left back by calmly slotting the ball low into the corner of the net.
Leading 1- 2 heading into the second half the Diggers continued to attack playing some great passing football. Johnny Pringle was in the thick of the action but was guilty of missing two glorious chances. The unknown linesman on the Glasnevin side was heard to question why he was allowed to remain on the pitch. But the Diggers coaches were having none of it and were rewarded when Pringle made some space with a neat turn in a crowded penalty area to open his account for new season. 5 minutes later Pringle was on the score sheet again with a delicate chip over the keeper's head from 18 yards out. Glasnevin were now well on top passing the ball neatly to maintain possession. However Ratoath are not a team to lie down and hit the visitors on the break with some quick passing moves. Their pressure paid off with 10 minutes remaining when their forward hit the back of the net with a close range effort to make the score 2- 4. Ratoath continued to press forward for the last few minutes but The Diggers defence stood firm to secure their second win of the new season.
Well done to both teams on a very entertaining match
